The Social Work Therapist in the Schools

The schools play a central role second only to the family in socializing children , first through classroom education but also through a variety of activities that contribute to the psychological and social maturation of citizens. Clinical social work , the dominant form of social work practice in schools , is designed to enhance these functions through psychosocial interventions with disturbed children and their families (Franklin 2016, p. 427).The best known and most widely used model is the traditional clinical model, which focuses on individual students with social and emotional problems that interfere with their potential to learn. The model’s primary base is psychoanalytic and ego psychology. The model’s major assumption is that the individual child or the family is experiencing difficult times or dysfunction. (Allen-Meares 2013, p. 4)
